On July 2, 2020, Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Attorney Shannon Snedaker to the 18th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission. Attorney Snedaker was among the 75 recent appointments made by Governor DeSantis. As a member of the 18th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission, Attorney Snedaker will vet potential judges for Seminole and Brevard Counties. A judicial vacancy may occur because of resignation, retirement, death, elevation of a sitting judge, or by newly created judgeship. Upon notification of a vacancy, the Governor requests the Chair of the Judicial Nominating Commission to convene as a commission for the purpose of selecting and submitting names of qualified individuals to the Governor for appointment to the bench. The Judicial Nominating Commission investigates each applicant to confirm eligibility. Eligible applicants interview with the Judicial Nominating Commission, which then determines by majority vote which applicants to recommend to the Governor for his consideration.
Attorney Snedaker was first appointed to the 18th Judicial Nominating Commission in November of 2019. That appointment was to fill a vacancy on the Judicial Nominating Commission with the term ending in July 2020. Under the most recent appointment, Attorney Snedaker will serve on the Judicial Nominating Commission until 2024.
